Hi! My name is John Betten. I've been a tutor with the University of North Texas and with Mentor Denton, and I love to learn with others. At UNT, I completed my B.A. in History with a minor in philosophy, honors and summa cum laude. During my last year at the university, I received the top award for the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in History. Although my major was history, I chose the subject of philosophy to write my thesis about political/environmental philosophy and the book of Genesis from the Hebrew Bible. I also received teacher training in the 15 hours of college credit I completed in secondary education. I have excelled as a student, and I am excited to help other students succeed as well. Currently, I am working on opening a community space and restaurant in the Denton. On the side, I would love to tutor middle school, high school, and college students. My studies and research have mainly been in the humanities: history, philosophy/religion, and English. As a National Merit Finalist, I can also tutor students who want to excel at the PSAT/SAT. I can tutor for any section of the PSAT/SAT, and my strongest areas are verbal and writing: I received a perfect score (80/80) in writing on the PSAT, and a near perfect score (790/800) in verbal on the SAT. I am enthusiastic and expressive, and I am confident that I can bring out the fun in any subject.
